    The Seed-Forming Plants

The seed represents an important evolutionary step because it offers protection for the delicate plant embryo. In addition, many seeds have the ability to remain in a dormant state until proper germination conditions arise. The seed plants are grouped into two categories: the gymnosperms and the angiosperms.
