South Burlington, VT (April 11, 2007) - The National Gardening Association (NGA) is pleased to announce that Conrad Fafard, Inc. is participating in the NYC GROWS Garden Festival presented by Target, hosted by NGA and the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation at Union Square Park South Plaza, Broadway & 14th St.
As a leading manufacturer of growing media products for the last 30 years, Fafard realizes the importance of education, as well as the more intimate rewarding aspects of outdoor living, that gardeners throughout the world have come to expect from the members of the industry. To this end, festival attendees will find several gardening activities and opportunities under Fafard's tent at the Festival.
The NYC GROWS Garden Festival Labyrinth
Fafard is very excited to be one of the donors of the walk-through labyrinth designed and constructed by celebrated environmental artist Diana Carulli. Fafard will be providing the growing media that the plants will be potted in as well as providing a team of professional gardeners to install the plants in the containers prior to the Festival. This labyrinth will provide those who choose to walk it with a chance to experience a living work of art that can help feed their inner "green".
Educational Opportunities Throughout the day of the Festival, opportunities will be available at the Fafard tent for folks both young and old to learn more about gardening and the plants within. For the adults, "Creating Paradise in Less Than 10 Square Feet" will show how to bring nature into even the smallest space. Well known garden writer & speaker Linda Askey will present this seminar on gardening in containers and will construct a container garden while speaking. At the end of her presentation, one lucky seminar participant will receive the garden Linda just completed as a gift. This presentation will be available 3-4 times during the day, every other hour.
Working to promote the gardeners of tomorrow, Fafard will also be presenting a program entitled "Where the Green Things Are". This program is designed to teach children about plant growth, development, and the importance of plants in our lives. During the presentation, a hands-on activity will give kids the chance to plant seeds that they can then take home and experience plants for themselves, as they see what they just learned come to life. A team of Fafard gardening experts will be on hand in the Fafard tent area to answer questions and provide information to the avid gardeners in attendance.
Fafard produces peatmoss, soilless mixes, top soil, peat humus, potting soils, composted manures, and a portion of the bark used in Fafard mixes. Soilless mixes represent the fastest growing segment of the Fafard business. Mix formulations are constantly monitored to match changing grower needs. Fafard also offers the unique service of custom blending. This flexibility provides customers with an almost infinite range of mix formulations and characteristics.
